GALVIT K

Menadione sodium bisulfite (syn. water soluble vitamin K3) is a white powder, which is soluble in water. The product is sensitive to light and oxygen. It also decomposes in alkaline solutions to give menadione which may precipitate out.
Vitamin K is indispensable for maintaining the function of the blood coagulation system in humans and all investigated animals. Even though vitamin K is synthesized by intestinal microorganisms, deficiency signs have been observed under field conditions. Poultry, and to a lesser degree pigs, are susceptible to vitamin K deficiency. This has usually been assumed to be due to the rapid transit rate of material through the relatively short intestinal tract of the chick or to limited synthesis of menaquinones in this species. Another study suggests that limited recycling of vitamin K because of low epoxide-reductase activity may be the cause of the increased requirement.
